Rafael Portella

Rafael Portella is a high school student at Our Lady of Mercy American School in Rio de Janeiro with a strong interest in economics, finance, and development policy. He founded RootED Futures' Rio chapter and now serves as Global Vice-President, building out the organization's presence in Brazil while contributing to its international strategy.

He is also the published author of a meta-analysis on cash transfer programs, which appeared in the journal Critical Debates.

Rafael has explored capital markets, applied economics, and quantitative analysis, and has gained professional experience through a finance internship where he worked with Bloomberg terminals and market research. He co-founded his school's Investment Club, which he has led into the Wharton Global Investment Competition, and serves as Director of Logistics for the largest student-run NGO at his school. He spent an academic year on exchange in California, where he earned the school's highest GPA award, and works in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.
